Moving on: Provo, Timpanogos baseball lead Utah County teams in playoff advancements

May 7, 2026Both No. 3 Timpanogos and No. 5 Provo were both tested during the super regional round of the 4A state baseball championships, but both managed to survive and advance. Both wins highlighted what was an otherwise fairly successful outings for Utah County teams at the outset of spring state tournament action.
4A baseball
The Bulldogs incurred an early 5-0 deficit to No. 21 Sky View early in the first game played during super regional action, but rallied late behind the pitching of Will Gulbrandsen and two key home runs provided by Elijah Aulava and Drevin Christensen. That momentum carried into the second game of the series, which saw Provo again rally late to take a tight 4-3 win courtesy of late 2-run RBI triple hit by Taven Lancaster. With the win Provo advances to take on No. 4 Ridgeline.
For Timpanogos, it managed to edge out No. 14 Juan Diego 3-2 on Thursday and then 11-9 on Friday. Both Cooper Hawkes and Canyon Clegg provided key home runs in the second game to help lift the Timberwolves into bracket player where they’ll take on No. 6 Bear River on Monday.
Both No. 10 Orem and No. 16 Mountain View took losses in the regional round to Crimson Cliffs and Snow Canyon, respectively.
5A baseball
Utah County teams fared very well in the opening round of the 5A competition headlined by No. 9 Payson taking two straight big wins over No. 24 Hillcrest. Powered by Brigzen Houser’s 3 RBI, Payson got by the Huskies 11-1 in Thursday’s opening game which led up to Friday’s 14-2 win. Next up for the Lions is a series versus No. 8 Alta.
No. 15 Salem Hills needed all three games to get by No. 18 Bountiful. After taking a narrow 4-3 win in the first game, the Skyhawks fell 6-5 during Friday’s first game The afternoon rubber match, however, saw the Skyhawk bats come alive in taking a 16-4 win. Salem Hills will now move on to take on No. 2 Maple Mountain.
No. 17 Springville got by No. 16 Clearfield by scores of 9-7 and 5-4 and will next take on No. 1 Spanish Fork while No. 10 Wasatch beat No. 23 Timpview in straight games by the scores of 6-2 and 18-2. Next up for the Wasps will be a series versus No. 7 Fremont.
4A boys soccer
Benjamin Bradley scored the game-winning goal for No. 14 Orem in its 3-2 win over No. 19 Jordan. The Tigers advance to take on No. 3 East. No. 12 Provo needed two overtime periods to get by No. 21 Mountain View. The winning goal was provided by Matt Hodges who will look to help lead the Bulldogs past No. 5 Timpanogos in the second round.
5A boys soccer
Miles Metcalf netted the game-winning goal for No. 14 Salem Hills in its 2-1 win over No. 19 Viewmont with the Skyhawks advancing to take on No. 3 Olympus. No. 17 Spanish Fork was powered by Kyle Williams’ two goals scored in a 3-1 win over No. 16 Brighton and will now look to keep things going when squaring off versus No. 1 Alta in the second round.
Losses were taken by No. 10 Wasatch, which was upset 3-2 to No. 21 West and No. 23 Timpview, which took a 5-1 loss to No. 10 Hunter.
6A boys soccer
No. 16 Lehi and No. 18 took losses to No. 17 Herriman and No. 15 Weber by scores of 1-0 and 5-0, respectively.
