Valley Top 5: Westlake girls, Payson boys lead wrestlers toward state tournaments

Here’s a look at our Utah Valley Top 5 rankings for boys basketball, girls basketball, boys wrestling and girls wrestling for this week:

Boys Basketball

1. Lehi (15-5)

Grayson Brousseau played hero with late 3-pointer vs. 5A No. 1 Alta.

2. Springville (14-5)

Chase Haslem’s jump shot is pure, Red Devils keep winning.

3. American Fork (13-7)

Cavemen get home games this week vs. Pleasant Grove and Lone Peak.

4. Cedar Valley (14-5)

Aviators host Payson on Thursday in key Region 7 matchup.

5. Salem Hills (12-7)

Rematch with Springville on Tuesday will test red-hot Skyhawks.

Girls Basketball

1. Lone Peak (15-3)

The Knights better not get complacent when hosting a fired-up Skyridge team on Tuesday.

2. Springville (16-2)

Friday’s home contest against Wasatch will likely be the biggest test for the Red Devils before state.

3. Skyridge (14-4)

A win at Lone Peak would be a huge stunner, so there are no expectations for the Falcons.

4. Westlake (13-6)

The Thunder have to elevate their play after back-to-back losses.

5. Timpview (15-4)

The Thunderbirds are balanced on offense with five players averaging between six and 12 points.

1. Payson

Lions looking good to win 5A.

2. Westlake

Thunder show dual meet win over Pleasant Grove was no fluke by again besting the Vikings at divisionals.

3. Pleasant Grove

Star power still make the Vikings a trophy threat in 6A.

4. Wasatch

Wasatch were a strong second in their 5A divisional.

5. Spanish Fork

Dons placed a strong third in their divisional.

Thunder extremely dominant in winning their divisional tournament.

2. Springville

Red Devils placed second in divisionals.

3. Maple Mountain

Golden Eagles usually wrestle best at the end of the season.

4. Mountain View

Bruins have deep squad and will be a factor at state tournament.

5. Cedar Valley

Aviator program wants to make statement at state next week.
