Valley Top 5: Pleasant Grove baseball, Salem Hills softball take top spots

Each week, Daily Herald sports experts Jared Lloyd and Darnell Dickson rank the top five teams in the Utah Valley in baseball, softball, boys soccer, boys volleyball and boys and girls lacrosse (records as of April 14):

BASEBALL

1. Pleasant Grove (12-1)

Vikings swept Skyridge last week, tied with AF at 3-0 atop Region 3.

2. American Fork (11-2)

Cavemen have key three-game set with Lehi this week.

3. Maple Mountain (13-1)

Cy “Crusher” Chrisman with seven HR’s and 25 RBI for Golden Eagles.

4. Timpanogos (12-5)

Consistently good: T-Wolves off to 6-0 start in Region 8.

5. Wasatch (10-4)

Surprising Wasps took two from Springville and one from Spanish Fork.

SOFTBALL

1. Salem Hills (17-1)

Watch out for the Skyhawks, who are flying high and steamrolling good opponents.

2. Westlake (10-2)

The Thunder allowed a single run while scoring 21 in their first two Region 3 contests.

3. Timpanogos (13-3)

The Timberwolves dropped an eight-inning heartbreaker to Uintah but have bounced back.

4. Payson (13-4)

The Lions head to Orem on Tuesday looking to avenge their earlier loss to Timpanogos.

5. Maple Mountain (13-5)

The Golden Eagles are part of a logjam in the middle of Region 7 but have shown they can be dangerous.

BOYS SOCCER

1. Timpanogos (8-0)

The Timberwolves move to the top of the rankings as they remained unbeaten.

2. American Fork (7-1)

The Cavemen bounced back from losing to Lehi in PKs by crushing Lone Peak.

3. Pleasant Grove (9-2)

The Vikings could move up with a big win at American Fork on Wednesday.

4. Lone Peak (9-2)

This Knight team is really talented but looks like it is still figuring things out.

5. Wasatch (9-1)

The Wasps have already opened up a two-game lead in Region 7.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

1. Maple Mountain (19-1)

Golden Eagles have dropped just one set in six Region 7 wins.

2. Lehi (12-2)

Sweep of Lone Peak shows Pioneers are for real this year.

3. Lone Peak (17-3)

Showdown with Westlake gives Knights a chance to get back on track.

4. Westlake (14-5)

Thunder living on the edge: 2 of 3 wins last week in five sets.

5. Orem (18-5)

Tigers face crosstown rival Timpanogos on Tuesday.

BOYS LACROSSE

1. Skyridge (11-0)

Will anyone be able to knock off the deep, talented Falcons?

2. Cedar Valley (7-1)

The Aviator offense is dangerous, having only been held below nine goals once this season.

3. Lehi (6-2)

The Pioneers start league action by hosting Lone Peak on Thursday.

4. Payson (8-3)

The Lions will show what they learned after dropping a tough, one-goal game to Spanish Fork.

5. Lone Peak (5-3)

The Knights are definitely a team to watch out for in Region 3.

GIRLS LACROSSE

1. Salem Hills (9-1)

6A Bingham puts first blemish on Skyhawks’ record.

2. Skyridge (7-2)

Falcons combined for 40 goals in wins vs. PG (19-10) and AF (21-2).

3. Lone Peak (8-2)

Momentum: Knights with three straight wins.

4. Provo (7-2)

Victory against Timpanogos gave Bulldogs advantage in Region 8.

5. Timpanogos (7-2)

T-Wolves gave Provo a good match before falling 15-10.
