UVU men’s hoops officially signs two more transfers
Utah Valley head coach Todd Phillips has announced that two-time national champion Andre Johnson Jr. has transferred from the University of Connecticut to Utah Valley along with former Stanford and LMU player Noah Taitz.
Both will compete for the Wolverines in 2024-25.
“We are thrilled to welcome Andre to the Wolverine family,” Phillips said. “He is an athletic combo guard who can really shoot the ball. He brings leadership and a winning DNA to UVU. He has won at the highest level, and we expect him to bring that experience to the Valley.”
Johnson Jr., a 182-pound, 6-foot-4 guard, played in 13 games for UConn last season, including three NCAA Tournament games, helping the team to a second straight national championship. During his two seasons with the Huskies, Johnson Jr. saw time in 22 games, winning the two national titles, a Big East regular season and tournament championship, a Phil Knight Invitational title, and a Jimmy V Classic championship.
The Bristol, Connecticut native prepped at South Kent High School, where he led the Cardinals to the national prep school semifinals in 2022. Johnson Jr. was a 1,000-point scorer at South Kent, earning conference player of the year and all-conference honors. He was also named an Adidas Select Series standout performer, Peach Jam Invitational All-Tournament honoree, Rumble in the Bronx top performer, Always Live all-tournament team member, and CP3 Rising Stars invitee.Johnson Jr. will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Taitz, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard, transfers to Utah Valley from LMU, where he appeared in five games. Taitz did not play the 2022-23 season due to an injury. He played his freshman and sophomore seasons at Stanford, where he played in 38 games over the two seasons (2020-22).

As a four-star recruit straight out of high school, Noah has always been a natural scorer. We have no doubt he will make an immediate impact and elevate our program to new heights.
“The Las Vegas native prepped at Bishop Gorman High School, where he was an ESPN four-star recruit and a three-star recruit by 247Sports and Rivals. He was the 22nd-ranked shooting guard in the nation. He led BGHS to four straight Nevada state championships and was an All-State selection as a sophomore and a junior. He helped Bishop Gorman to a No. 14 national ranking. Taitz played for Vegas Elite on the AAU circuit.
