The Utah Valley women's cross country team (left, in green) prepares to race at the Color County Invitational in Cedar City on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025.CEDAR CITY — Sila Kiplagat and Morgan Nokes took home the individual titles with course record-breaking times as Utah Valley cross country won the Color Country Invitational on Saturday morning in Cedar City.
Kiplagat and teammates Wyatt Mortenson and Jayden Fitzgarrald ran a dominating race to take the top three spots. The Wolverine trio finished just over a minute ahead of the next runners.
“Sila led from start to finish and was followed closely by Wyatt,” said head coach Scott Houle. “Our 1-2-3 punch is looking good, and the rest of the guys did a great job.”
Kiplagat led the men’s team to the team title with a course-record 18:03.23 6k time. The Wolverines had five of the top seven finishers on the men’s side, with Mortenson (2nd, 18:06.51), Fitzgarrald (3rd, 18:10.53), Cameron Jacobs (4th, 19:17.22), and Cayden Tupper (7th, 19:26.33) rounding out the scorers.
The win for the Wolverine Women is the team’s fifth straight at Cedar Ridge Golf Course, dating back to the 2021 season. Nokes’ individual title is already her third in just four races so far this season.
“Morgan had a really good race and led start to finish,” said Houle. “She had a really good rebound from Gans Creek. Elisabeth Ferrell had one of her best races for us. She’s really going to move us up the team board.”
Nokes took first by just under a minute, continuing a trend of fast finishes from her previous three races. Nokes took the individual titles at the UVU Invitational and Beehive Classic by 40 seconds and 38 seconds respectively. Last week at Gans Creek, Nokes took 18th against a stacked field, breaking the previous course record.
Ari Trimble took her third runner-up finish of the year with a time of 14:26.59, taking second behind Nokes in each of her previous wins. Ferrell had her top finish of the year, taking third with a time of 14:37.04. Natalia Boltz (6th, 14:48.90), Addison Pettingill (9th, 14:55.43), and Julie Moore (10th, 14:57.57) rounded out the top 10.
Women’s soccer races past Cal Baptist
Faith Webber scored a brace and Utah Valley poured in a season-high seven goals in a 7-1 rout of California Baptist on Friday night at UCCU Stadium.
Utah Valley improves to 7-4-1 overall and remains perfect in WAC play, moving its league record to 3-0-0. CBU falls to 6-6-1 overall and 2-1-0 in league play.
The Wolverines took a 2-1 lead at halftime but erupted for five goals in the second half. Faith Webber, who scored in the first half, added a second goal for a brace and her 10th marker of the season. Ruby Hladek, Sierra Pennock, Mia Owens and Bailey Peterson also tallied goals in the second half as Utah Valley took over the match.
Hladek tallied her 26th career assist in the match, surpassing Heather Stainbrook (2019-23) and Amber Tripp (2016-21), who each recorded 25 assists, to become Utah Valley’s all-time leader in that category.
“I thought it was unfortunate that we started out a little bit slow, but luckily we reacted well after they scored,” UVU head coach Chris Lemay said. “I was very happy with the second half and seeing so many players get involved in our attack and produce. Overall, it was a really good performance, and at the end of the day it’s worth three points just like the rest of them.”
The win over CBU wrapped up a three-game homestand for the Wolverines. Utah Valley now heads out for three straight on the road, beginning with Utah Tech in St. George on Thursday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
Men’s soccer loses first match of season
PHOENIX — Noah Pogue scored his third goal of the season in the 28th minute to give Utah Valley an early lead, but three unanswered goals from the GCU Lopes (7-2-1, 1-0 WAC) handed the Wolverines (6-1-1, 0-1 WAC) their first loss of the 2025 season, 3-1 at GCU Stadium on Saturday night.
The two sides were evenly matched for most of the night, even at 1-1 through the first 66 minutes, but two late goals from the Lopes star freshman Junior Diouf allowed GCU to pull away.
Utah Valley returns home for its next three matches, starting on Thursday against Air Force. That game will be Senior Night for the Wolverines, as the team will honor its 11 graduating players. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. MDT, with the Senior Night ceremony starting about 30 minutes before. Tickets can be purchased at GoUVU.com/MSOCtix.
