The Utah Valley women's cross country team won the Big West team title in Riverside, Calif., on Saturday, October 31, 2026.NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — Josie Clawson recorded a brace as Utah Valley rallied from a two-goal halftime deficit with five unanswered second-half goals to defeat CSUN, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at Matador Soccer Field, completing its inaugural Big West season unbeaten with a 9-0-2 record and claiming the outright Big West regular-season championship.
Utah Valley improves to 13-4-3 overall and extends its winning streak to seven matches and its unbeaten streak to 12 games. The Wolverines also push their regular-season conference unbeaten streak to 43 consecutive matches.
The victory gives Utah Valley its fifth consecutive conference regular-season championship after claiming four straight Western Athletic Conference titles from 2022-25. The Wolverines also become outright Big West champions in their first season as members of the league.
“I’m proud of the team. I’m proud of the players. I’m proud of their resiliency, their consistency,” said Utah Valley head coach Chris Lemay. “To win a conference with 12 teams in it and a lot of quality teams, that’s the biggest testament, that we were capable of being consistent. That’s what it’s going to take to win a conference like this. I’m happy for them. They earned it. They deserve it.”
Utah Valley has earned a first-round bye into the semifinals of the 2026 Big West Women’s Soccer Championship. The top-seeded Wolverines will host the winner of Wednesday’s first-round matchup between No. 4 seed California Baptist and No. 5 seed Cal Poly on Saturday, Nov. 7, at UCCU Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. MT.
The Big West championship match is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14, at the home site of the highest remaining seed, with the winner earning the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
Men’s soccer edges Cal State Bakersfield for Big West crown
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Jose Luis Martin Montealegre had a brace and an assist and Oliver Watts scored his third goal of the season to propel Utah Valley to a 3-2 win over Cal State Bakersfield and secure the 2026 Big West regular season title.
The Wolverines earned their first league title in 10 years in their first season in The Big West. Utah Valley’s only other conference title came in 2016 while members of the WAC.
Montealegre’s performance was an historic one — he became just the fourth player in program history to have two goals and an assist in a single game, and the first since Aaron Nixon in 2021 against CSUN. Montealegre’s eight goals this season are tied for fifth-most in program history.
“I couldn’t be prouder of this group. The players bought in from day one and gave everything for each other, and tonight they earned something this program has waited ten years for,” said head coach Michael Chesler. “None of it happens without our staff, who poured countless hours into these guys behind the scenes, or without our administration, our support staff, our families and the fans who showed up all season. I’m grateful to be part of it. This championship belongs to everyone who gave a piece of themselves to UVU soccer.”
With the victory, Utah Valley secured the No. 1 seed and home-field advantage in The Big West Championships, which begin on Nov. 7. The Wolverines will host the very same Roadrunners they just beat, and with a win, would advance to face the victor in the other semifinal between UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara.
