The Utah Valley men's soccer team celebrates a 2-1 victory at Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

Trevor Walk scored his first goal of the season and Jackson Medina made three saves as the Wolverine defense kept its fifth clean sheet of the season, topping the CSUN Matadors, 1-0 on Saturday night at UCCU Stadium

With the win, Utah Valley secured home field advantage in the semifinals of The Big West championships on Nov. 7.

Walk broke the deadlock in the 28th minute off a feed from Adem Arous. CSUN keeper Bryan Castaneda came off his line to corral the ball, but Walk was able to chip his shot around him as it trickled into the net. Walk is the 19th different player to contribute to a goal this season.

Medina made his first save of the night in the 37th minute on a tame effort from Dave-Ryan Tankou. Medina made two more saves in quick succession in the 66th and 68th minute, with the latter being a diving save that clipped off the post and behind for a corner.

A tense and chippy game nearly reached a breaking point in the 75th minute as Grau was shown a red for a forearm near the head of the Matadors’ Messiah Antwi. After a VAR review, the card was downgraded to a yellow, meaning Grau will now have to sit out the Wolverines’ next match on Wednesday at San Diego State.

Following the yellow, CSUN had just one blocked shot over the final 15 minutes.

Utah Valley heads to San Diego to face off with former WAC rival San Diego State in the team’s second of three Pac-12 crossover matches. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. MDT, and the game will be streamed on the Pac-12 YouTube channel.

Women’s soccer handles UC Riverside on Senior Night

Three different players scored goals, and five others recorded assists as Utah Valley University earned a 3-0 shutout of UC Riverside on Saturday night at UCCU Stadium in front of 1,493 fans.

The win kept the Wolverines (9-4-3, 5-0-2) atop the Big West standings alongside Cal State Fullerton, which defeated Sacramento State 1-0 earlier Saturday. Both teams lead the conference with 17 points and have four games remaining in the regular season. Utah Valley is also unbeaten in its last eight matches, has won three straight and recorded its second shutout of the week. The win also extends UVU’s regular season conference unbeaten streak to 39 matches.

Prior to the match, Utah Valley honored its six seniors as part of Senior Night. The six are Jacey Wood, Lulie MacFarlane, Tylie Miller, Isabella Stewart, Addie Olson, and Kate Booth.

“Senior Night is always special and those six have all made tremendous contributions to our program. To get a win for them tonight was great,” said head coach Chris Lemay. “We didn’t play our best, but did enough. They (UCR) set up a little block, and I don’t think we were as creative as we’re capable of being in breaking it down. But anytime you can score three goals and not concede, you’ll take it.”

The Wolverines set a program record with 20 corner kicks while outshooting the Highlanders (2-11-1, 0-6-1) 15-3 and holding a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal. Utah Valley also dominated possession, controlling the ball for 73% of the match.

Madeleine Boucherrecorded her fifth shutout of the season and second of the week, making one save in Saturday’s victory to follow up her three save performance in the win at California Baptist on Wednesday.

Up next, Utah Valley hosts Sacramento State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at UCCU Stadium before traveling to UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Oct. 24.

Men’s basketball drops exhibition game at Utah Tech

ST. GEORGE, Utah — Dominick Nelson scored a team-high 15 points and Isaac Davis added 13 points and eight rebounds as Utah Valley fell to Utah Tech, 92-80, in an exhibition game Saturday night at Burns Arena in St. George.

The Wolverines outscored the Trailblazers 47-45 in the second half and cut a 22-point deficit to nine in the closing minutes, but Utah Tech held on to secure the exhibition victory.

“Exactly what we needed,” said Utah Valley head coach Todd Phillips. “We’re trying to figure out lineups and rotations, and probably played too many guys. Tried to play everybody tonight, and it was a good experience. I thought Utah Tech did a great job. They moved the ball and shared it, and we made a couple runs there. We just made some little mistakes that shoot ourselves in the foot that you can’t make.”

Nelson scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half, finishing 5-of-10 from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 at the free throw line. Davis added 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and a block, including five offensive rebounds.

Tyler Weaver provided a spark off the bench with 11 points, knocking down a pair of three-pointers and going 5-of-6 from the free throw line. Braden Housley finished with nine points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Jordy Barnes added eight points with two three-pointers.

Utah Tech was led by Christian Gibson, who scored a game-high 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting, including three three-pointers. Mark Brown and Aris Rodriguez each added 19 points, while former Wolverine Ethan Potter recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Utah Valley shot 37 percent (27-of-73) from the field and 26.9 percent (7-of-26) from three-point range. Utah Tech connected on 51.8 percent (29-of-56) of its shots and 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from beyond the arc.

Utah Valley now turns its attention to the official season opener on Monday, Nov. 2, when the Wolverines host Western Colorado at the UCCU Center. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and over the airwaves on ESPN The Fan (103.9 FM/98.3 FM/960 AM) and online at ESPNTheFan.com.
