Documents say victim was beaten, bound, transported and shot to death

By The Associated Press - | Jan 20, 2006

ST. GEORGE– Trisha Stubbs was beaten and bound with duct tape, driven to Toquerville Falls and shot to death, according to court documents.

The body of the 20-year-old St. George woman was found on Jan. 7, and three adults and a juvenile have been arrested.

The information released Thursday was part of two probable cause statements filed with 5th District Court.

Kyle Sheldon Jensen, 20, and Tina Eileen Roberts, 34, are charged with first-degree felony murder, aggravated kidnapping and obstruction of justice. They are being held on $1 million cash-only bail each and will have their preliminary hearings on Jan. 30.

The juvenile and Jack Daniel Brown, 26, who was arrested in Las Vegas on unrelated charges, are being held and are being investigated.

A $100,000 cash-only warrant was issued Jan. 9 for Brown’s arrest after he failed to appear in court in Washington County on Jan. 6 on charges of forgery and vehicle theft.

According to the probable cause statement, Jensen told investigators he was at a house in Hurricane when Stubbs arrived with a man identified in the statement as Subject No. 1.

Washington County Attorney Brock Belnap has declined to identify Subject No. 1 or discuss the motive in the slaying.

In the court document, Jensen told investigators Subject No. 1 beat Stubbs, bound her with duct tape and covered her mouth with duct tape.

Jensen said he carried Stubbs out to a car, and he Jensen, Roberts and Subject No. 1 drove to Toquerville Falls, according to the document.

He told investigators the Subject No. 1 removed Stubbs from the vehicle and shot her several times in the head with a .357 magnum.

At the time she was killed, Stubbs was facing charges of possession of amphetamines and drug paraphernalia.

Brown also was being prosecuted on felony charges of theft and possession of a controlled substance.
