Convergys closing Orem call center

By Karissa Neely daily Herald - | Mar 22, 2017

Convergys officials announced Tuesday that the Orem Convergys contact center will be closing May 26. This comes on the heels of February announcements of call center and office closures in Tennessee and Missouri.

The Utah closure will impact up to 130 employees in Orem. The company is consolidating remaining work to its Salt Lake City and Logan locations. Ed Loyd, director of corporate communications, said employees will have the opportunity to apply for work-at-home programs or transfer to another Convergys location. Loyd said Convergys leaders met with Orem employees Tuesday.

“We never take lightly the decision to close a site and our first priority has been to share this news with our employees, and the options that are available to them,” Loyd said. “We will also be working with the Department of Workforce Services and helping our employees with outplacement. We want to do everything we can to help them move to the next employment opportunity.”

Loyd said the decision to close is due to changes in the industry. Convergys specializes in customer experience outsourcing for major brands, and is dependent on its clients’ needs, Loyd said. Some of the programs the company previously offered have shifted or closed.

“At this point, it made sense to consolidate work we continue to have,” Loyd said. “We remain committed to the state of Utah and our sites at Salt Lake City and Logan where combined we have more than 1,000 team members, supporting multiple clients and industries.”

According to Loyd, the Convergys call center has been in Orem for decades.
