Pleasant Grove’s first major hotel quietly opened this week near Evermore Park.

The Hyatt House, an extended-stay hotel product, opened its doors to visitors Tuesday. The Hyatt House is Utah County’s only upscale, extended-stay offering, according to Erick Lorenzana, the hotel’s general manager.

As an extended-stay hotel, 77 of the Hyatt House’s 125 guestrooms are apartment-style kitchen suites with a living room, bedroom and bathroom. The hotel’s kitchen suites are popular with business clients and families who need a “home base” with a bit more room, and the option to make some of their own meals. The other 48 rooms are den guestrooms that feature a couch with a sofa bed and a king-size bed or two queen-size beds.

Pleasant Grove Mayor Guy Fugal — a lifelong Pleasant Grove resident — is very excited about the new hotel. The only hospitality option he can remember in the city was the Maple Hills Motel, a small motel on State Street in Pleasant Grove, that closed decades ago.

“After I-15 went through, the motel pretty much went away. They are apartments now, I believe,” he said. Interstate 15 was completed in Utah around 1974.

“This is our first hotel. We are really excited about it,” Fugal said. “This is one of the best things to happen to Pleasant Grove. They’ve done a really good job with it.”

Lorenzana said the hotel will be a draw to business travelers and families and individuals coming to town to visit Evermore, the Void or even the local mountains.

“The Hyatt House brand is everything the name represents — a welcoming and warm environment that encourages guests to live like residents. We want each and every guest who comes through our doors to feel that they can let their real-life routines roll on, even when they’re on the road,” Lorenzana said. “This is a great location, between Lehi and Provo/Orem. We can cater to all clientele while, at the same time, being a part of the community and helping Pleasant Grove flourish and progress.”

Not only will the hotel draw business people visiting doTerra and Valley Grove-area businesses, Fugal believes it’s a real benefit to Pleasant Grove residents.

“It’s great for people who are coming into PG for weddings, events or to visit family. Before, they had to stay in American Fork or Lehi,” he said. “I’m so excited about this.”

In addition, the hotel boosts the city’s economy, according to City Councilwoman Cyd Lemone.

“Hotels bring in room tax,” she said, adding that visitors also “frequent local businesses, which in turn generates tax revenue. It really is a win-win for our community.”

The city has been interested in having a hotel for about a decade, but when the Great Recession hit, those earlier developer’s plans fell through, Fugal said. As the economy improved and the Valley Grove development rose from the ground, Sequoia Development, Inc. approached the city about building the Hyatt.

The Hyatt House offers more than 1,900 square feet of gathering spaces and rooms, with options for in-house catering. Those staying at the hotel can enjoy in-room smart televisions with Xfinity voice-activated remote controls, an in-hotel bar, a complimentary shuttle within a five-mile radius, and complimentary breakfast. The pool, while outside, is heated and surrounded by a heated deck. With recent snowstorms, Lorenzana said they’ve already seen the deck melt the snow.

“We are excited to be bring our expanding hotel operations to Pleasant Grove and be a key part of the growth boom in this expanding community,” said Kevin Ludlow, president of Sequoia Development.

Starting at $4.32/week.
