A voting sign is displayed outside of the Utah County Elections Office on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.Polls closed Tuesday night for municipal primaries across the valley, with multiple Utah County cities holding elections. Candidates who make it through the primaries will compete for open mayoral, city council and three emerging school district seats in the upcoming November general election.
As of 9 p.m. Tuesday, out of the 322,090 registered voters, more than 48,740 ballots had been cast, yielding a 15% voter turnout thus far.
In June, 77 people threw their hats into contention to run for the 21 school board seats making up the three future districts.
However, ahead of Tuesday’s primary elections, seven of those had dropped out of the races.
The tentatively named Aspen Peaks School District, encompassing cities in the northeast portion of Utah County and a portion of Draper; Lake Mountain School District, which includes cities in northwest Utah County; and Timpanogos School District, including cities at the south end of the current Alpine School District, all have seven school board seats up for grabs.
One seat is open in each race, with the top two candidates advancing to the general election.
Primary elections were not held for seats 2, 6 and 7 on the Lake Mountain School board or seat 7 on the Timpanogos School board races due to a limited number of candidates on those ballots.
