Lay-offs occurred at two large employers in Utah County in recent days.

Nu Skin laid off approximately 5% of its global workforce Monday, a spokesman confirmed with the Daily Herald.

The layoffs come days after the personal care and wellness company released its second quarter results.

The company made $320.1 million in revenue in the second quarter of 2026, a 17.1% decrease from its 2025 revenue of approximately $320.1 million, according to a company news release.

Nu Skin president and CEO Ryan Napierski said in the release that the company was realigning its organizational resources to “better position the business to drive sustainable, long-term value for our shareholders.”

Last week, Tyson Foods announced the closure of a beef facility in Eagle Mountain, leading to the layoffs of hundreds of employees.

According to the Utah Department of Workforce Services, 723 workers were affected by the layoffs. The closure comes as Tyson Foods says it is making strategic changes to its company amid a historic cattle shortage in the country.

“Tyson Foods recognizes the impact these decisions have on team members and communities,” a news release said. “The company is committed to supporting our team members through this transition, including helping them apply for open positions at other facilities.”

For Utah County residents who have recently lost their jobs, there are resources available to help, according to Jared Mendenhall with the Department of Workforce Services.

“Come to Workforce Services to file for unemployment insurance or see if you’re eligible for SNAP or anything,” Mendenhall said. “And then, if you’re in an immediate need, give a call to 211, and they can hook you up with local resources that can help you with any immediate needs you have.”

There is a Utah Department of Workforce Services employment center in Provo, and a Utah Valley Job Fair will be held Aug. 25 at the Utah Valley Convention Center.

Starting at $4.32/week.
