Strong communities are not built by one person or one organization alone. They are built by people who quietly give their time, wisdom and leadership to causes bigger than themselves.

At United Way, we are fortunate to have a remarkable group of volunteer board members who do exactly that every single day.

Our board members are not compensated for their service. They volunteer because they believe deeply in strengthening our community and creating more opportunities for children and families to thrive. They bring expertise from business, education, nonprofit leadership, finance, healthcare and countless other fields. More importantly, they bring passion, perspective and a willingness to ask hard questions that help United Way become stronger and more impactful.

Serving on a nonprofit board is far more than attending meetings. These leaders help shape strategy, ensure accountability, oversee finances, advocate in the community and challenge us to continually improve. Their leadership helps ensure that every dollar entrusted to United Way is used wisely and effectively to meet the needs of our community.

Recently, Jeanette Bennett concluded two years of service as our volunteer board chair. Jeanette, executive managing director of Colliers Utah, brought extraordinary leadership, insight and energy during her tenure. She consistently encouraged innovation while keeping our mission centered on people and outcomes. Her ability to bring people together, ask thoughtful questions and inspire action has left a lasting mark on our organization.

Like many great volunteer leaders, Jeanette balanced this demanding role alongside an already full professional and personal life. That is what makes volunteer leadership so remarkable. These individuals give not because they have extra time but because they care deeply about the future of our community.

At a time when life feels busier than ever and when there are countless demands competing for our attention, these board members continue to step forward and serve. They willingly give their time, talents and experience not for recognition but because they care deeply about the future of our children, families and neighborhoods.

Their example also sends a powerful message to the next generation. When young people see respected community leaders giving back, serving others and investing in their community, they learn that leadership is not simply about success or achievement. It is about responsibility, compassion and making life better for others.

Our community owes these remarkable volunteer leaders a sincere thank you. Their service strengthens our community in ways that often go unseen, but the impact is real and lasting. We are deeply grateful for their leadership and for their willingness to serve all of us.
