LDS Church’s World Report details work in Maui, Turkey and beyond
The popular World Report of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a semiannual compilation of the church’s activities over the past six months, is now available online.
The 45-minute YouTube video is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Russian.
The October 2023 World Report showcases humanitarian efforts to help communities in Maui, Turkey, Syria and Africa.
The church reports it has set up five mobile hospitals in Turkey and 500 container homes for families. In Maui, the church has donated food, clothing and other supplies plus $1 million to help with cleanup from a summer wildfire. Additionally, meals have been supplied to Ukranian refugees and to families in Africa and other areas of the world, according to the video production.
In the U.S., the church has helped flood victims. In San Francisco, a 240-bed Navigation Center was built to house the homeless.
The video also documents the global reach of the Light the World Giving Machines, including helping women in Africa start their own home businesses, or raise chickens and pigs to make money for their families. The chickens and pigs are donated at Christmastime through the Giving Machines — now in 51 cities worldwide.
The World Report also highlights temple news from around the globe, including the first temple of The Church of Jesus Christ in Thailand. The report offers a glimpse into the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square’s first world tour concert in Mexico City. The growth of the Church Educational System is also spotlighted.
As part of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square, the church has announced a new pilot program for voices of members around the world to sing with the famous choir during general conference, which will be held Saturday and Sunday.
Viewers will also see the ministry of the faith’s First Presidency, Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and general officers. This includes Morehouse College’s inaugural Gandhi-King-Mandela Peace Prize given to President Russell M. Nelson in April. Also highlighted is Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson’s participation in Notre Dame’s Religious Freedom Law Symposium in London.
