The Lindon Police Department announced Monday night that it is actively investigating an incident that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old male.

According to Mike Brower, Lindon City’s chief of police, the incident occurred Monday morning between 2-2:30 a.m. when two local groups of people met and had an altercation near Lindon View Park and Murdock Trailhead. No weapons were involved in the incident.

A 16-year-old victim sustained injuries during the altercation that led to his death. A 16-year-old male has been arrested in connection with the case, and the investigation is still ongoing.

“The investigation is still active. We are still searching for other individuals involved,” Brower said Tuesday night. “At this point, I can’t provide details surrounding the mechanism of injury or the reason for the meeting between the two groups due to the pending investigation.”

According to Brower, the victim and members of the two groups involved were not from Lindon, but from somewhere else in Utah County. He did not confirm or deny whether the altercation between the two groups was gang-related but did say the Lindon City Police Department is working with other local law enforcement entities in order to cover “every aspect” of the investigation.

“Based on information obtained surrounding the death, we do not have any reason to believe the public is in any danger,” reads a press release. “Due to the active nature of the investigation, we are not releasing the name of the victim or further details.”

Anyone who has additional information related to this incident is asked to contact Lindon police at 801-769-8600 or emergency dispatch at 801-229-7070.

“The community has rallied around in helping gather information through the neighborhoods around this area,” Brower said. “Lindon is not known for violent crime. … Our hearts go out to the family of this young man who is deceased because of this altercation.”
