American Fork Chief of Police Cameron Paul.

For the first time in decades, there will be a new chief of police in American Fork. Lt. Cameron Paul was announced Thursday as the new permanent leader of the department.

“I am very humbled by this enormous responsibility,” Paul stated in a press release. “However, I am fully dedicated to fostering an environment where our officers and staff love to come to work every day. I am also extremely committed to ensuring our community members are proud of their police department and their officers. This will come as we continue to establish highly positive and unprecedented community relationships.”

He has worked as the interim chief for the department since September 2021 after the retirement of longtime chief Darren Falslev.

Paul has spent his entire law enforcement career with American Fork, totaling 14 years in multiple units including patrol, investigations, SWAT and special victims.

In addition to American Fork, the police department provides contracted services to Cedar Hills. Praise for Paul was glowing from other leaders in American Fork.

“Cameron Paul is a leader in every sense of the word. He is full of integrity and love for the community and those he works with. He is the right person to lead our police department into the future,” Mayor Brad Frost said.

According to the city, there were both in-state and out-of-state applicants considered for the position. David Bunker, the city administrator, added that Paul “is truly the best person for the job.”

Paul said he is looking forward to leading a department he has been part of for years.

“The American Fork Police Department currently employs some of the very best women and men in the profession. They are dedicated, courageous, kind, and hard-working. It has been an incredible honor for me to have been able to work alongside them, and I am so blessed to be able to continue to work with them,” he said.

Starting at $4.32/week.
