Utah County cities to host spring cleanup days

Trash and debris litters the northwest part of Springville in April 2021.Throughout April and May, cities across Utah County are hosting spring cleanup days to get their communities ready for summer. They are inviting church groups, scout troops, volunteers and residents to get outside and join in the process of beautifying the community. Springville, Spanish Fork, Lehi, Orem, Highland, Cedar Hills and Saratoga Springs all have schedule cleanup days over the coming days and weeks.
“Residents are encouraged to clean their yards, sweep gutters and sidewalks and do their best to improve yards and neighborhoods. Owners of vacant lots are encouraged to clear their lots of garbage, tall weeds and other debris,” reads the Springville Public Works department website.
Paint, toxic materials, antifreeze, aerosols, household cleaning supplies, pesticides, batteries, lightbulbs, chemicals, freezers, refrigerators, tires, mattresses, televisions, computers, and other household or electronic waste should be disposed of at either the South Utah Valley Solid Waste District in Springville or the North Pointe Solid Waste Special Service District in Lindon.
“If you’re not sure what we accept, call us because we have the answers. No matter what it is you need to get rid of, we can help you get it to the right place. That’s what we do,” said Terry Ficklin, general manager of the South Utah Valley Solid Waste District.
Each city’s public works department will be providing dumpsters in various locations — which can be found on city websites — for scrap metal and trash. Tree trimmings and other yard waste can be taken to local compost facilities such as the Springville Yard Waste Disposal Center or either solid waste district location for free.
Lehi City encourages residents to “clean up trash around a neighborhood, park or school, planting a garden, donating used books to a library, and doing yard work at your home, for a neighbor, (or a senior).”
Spanish Fork‘s cleanup days will run each day this week until Saturday and again May 1-6. The city is accepting green waste in five different dumpster locations, saving participants a trip to a waste district station. Springville will be holding their Spring cleanup days on two upcoming weekends, May 12-13, as well as May 19-20.
Orem is encouraging residents to come out and participate in cleanup days this week until Saturday and May 1-6. Dumpsters will be available at Nielsen’s Grove Park during the first week and Palisade Park during the second week.
Highland will host their spring cleanup days on May 6-7. Dumpsters will be available for residents in the parking lot by the mouth of American Fork Canyon from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Cedar Hills cleanup day will take place on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Residents can take their trash to the dumpsters located at 10900 N Canyon Road. Saratoga Springs residents can engage in spring cleanup on May 11-13 and May 15-20. Participants can take trash, wood, and scrap metal to the dumpsters, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
