Thousands across Utah County impacted by Rocky Mountain Power outage

Rocky Mountain Power shared the news via social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
“We’re aware of a power outage affecting 9,400 customers in American Fork, UT. The cause is under investigation,” the company posted at 11:12 a.m.
Residents also reported outages in Vineyard and Orem.
“Approximately 1257 customers are without power. The cause is under investigation,” the company later said on X in response to an inquiry about the outage. By 12:30 p.m. Thursday, the company’s outage map showed only about 10 impacted customers in Utah Valley.
Just over 10,000 homes throughout the county were affected by the outage, as of noon Thursday.
Officials at Rocky Mountain Power couldn’t confirm a definite cause when reached, but the outage map listed the cause as being related to a substation problem. The restoration time originally was estimated at 4 p.m. Thursday.
“Looks like we’re looking at substation (issues) but I just don’t have specifics at this point,” spokesperson Jona Whitesides said.
Rocky Mountain Power encourages customers to text the word OUT to 759677 for updates on any outages.
