Skyler Beltran selected as interim county commissioner in wake of Sakievich resignation
The Utah County Republican Party Central Committee has nominated Skyler Beltran to fill the role of county commissioner, the county announced in a press release. Beltran replaces Tom Sakievich, who resigned Sept. 3.
The committee held a meeting Saturday in Spanish Fork where Beltran was the selected choice to finish out Sakievich’s term, until the end of the year.
“I’m grateful for the continued support of the Republican Party. I look forward to being sworn in this week and getting to work for the great people of Utah County,” Beltran said in the press release. “Our community is truly the best place to live, work, and raise a family. I also extend my thanks to Commissioner Tom Sakievich for his service.”
Beltran, of Lehi, had already thrown his hat into the race for county commissioner, as Sakivech previously announced that he would not seek reelection months before he resigned. During a nominating convention in April, delegates voted Beltran the Republican nominee, garnering 66% of the vote in the second round.
He’s set to face off against United Utah Party candidate Alan Wessman. Both will appear on the ballot in November, the Daily Herald previously reported.
Beltran’s interim nomination is expected to be approved by County Commissioners Amelia Powers Gardner and Brandon Gordon during their weekly meeting Wednesday, the press release said.
