State Route 92 in Provo Canyon was closed for a time Thursday after multiple crashes occurred along the Alpine Loop.
Lt. Cameron Roden of the Utah Highway Patrol said two vehicles slid off of the slick, winding pavement into a small river stream that runs alongside the road near Sundance Mountain Resort.
One of the vehicles landed upside down in the river, but Roden said all of the injuries were minor.
However, the incident caused traffic disruptions for people traveling through the canyon early Thursday afternoon.
“Vehicles currently on the road are unable to pass due to additional accidents on the road,” the North Fork Fire Department warned in a social media post.
Crews were working to get the two vehicles out of the icy water, while snowplows were helping to make the road less slick, according to Roden.
Authorities believe weather conditions from Thursday’s mix of snow and rain may have been a factor.
UHP reopened the road just before 4 p.m. Thursday, but urged drivers to travel with caution in the area due to icy conditions.
