Crews work to contain perimeter of Buck Basin Fire in Wasatch County

The fire, located in rural Wasatch County north of Strawberry Reservoir on Forest Service land, was started by a lightning strike Saturday and is not threatening any structures.
Brenda Bushnell with the U.S. Forest Service said the fire had little growth activity overnight Monday, and joint aircraft and ground crews worked to establish anchor points and clean up the blaze’s outside edges Tuesday morning as the fire’s heavy interior continued to burn.
Aircraft were grounded Tuesday afternoon due to lightning and thunder in the fire area, but crews are hoping incoming weather could help put the fire out, according to Bushnell.
She said erratic fire behavior remains a concern.
“We are seeing such strange fire behavior this year, and with these storms too, we’re getting winds. So that’s usually what hurts us, is the wind,” she said.
Red Creek Mountain Road FS080 and Low Pass Road FS106 are closed to the public at this time because of the wildfire, according to Utah Fire Info.
In southern Tooele County, the Stookey Fire remains at 0% containment and has grown to 4,000 acres. Pony Express Road and Sharp Road remain closed Tuesday due to the blaze, the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office said.
