Reps. Mike Kennedy and Celeste Maloy, R-Utah, speak during a GOP town hall meeting Thursday, March 20, 2025, in Salt Lake City.

Rep. Mike Kennedy secured the Utah Republican Party’s nomination for Utah’s 4th Congressional District, and another district is poised for a primary decision following the Utah Republican Party Convention Saturday at Utah Valley University.

Kennedy, who currently serves Utah’s 3rd district, received 79% of the vote in the first round of convention voting to secure the nomination. He will not be challenged by any signature gathering candidates in the primary. The restructured 4th District will cover north and west Utah County.

“Thank you, delegates,” Kennedy said on X.com. “I am humbled and honored by your overwhelming support. This is an important step, but there’s more work ahead. I’ll keep fighting every day to make Washington smaller and Utah stronger.”

In the race for the restructured 3rd District, covering Orem, Provo and south Utah County, Utah Rep. Celeste Maloy received 51% of the final round of voting to Phil Lyman’s 49%. Both candidates received enough delegate support to qualify for the primary ballot.

“What a day! Another convention in the books, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the support and trust placed in me by the delegates,” Maloy said on X.com.

“More tragic than a rebel without a cause is a righteous cause without a rebel — and what is a million more times powerful than a rebel? A Republican Party that believes in freedom!” Lyman said on X.com.

The majority of state legislative positions covering Utah County were decided in the county convention last week. However, a pair of races with local implications played out.

In the state Senate, Brooks Benson secured the Republican nomination with 73% of the vote from delegates in District 11, which covers Eagle Mountain.

In District 19, covering the north part of Saratoga Springs, Doug Fiefia received 58.6% of the vote and incumbent Dan McCay received 41.4%. Both candidates will advance to the primary.

Starting at $4.32/week.
