Snow College marks 136 years with celebration at historic Co-op building
Ephraim City Mayor John Scott joined President Stacee McIff and Alumni Association President Melissa Judy of Snow College in speaking about history while looking toward the future. The three then officially cut the ribbon, which was held by Nathan Bradley, Snow College Alumni Relations Officer, and Madison Moulton, Miss Teen Sanpete County.
Snow College celebrated its rich 136-year history on Tuesday with a special event held at the historic Co-op building, the original home of the college. The gathering brought together students, faculty, community members, and local dignitaries to honor the school’s legacy while also marking a new chapter with the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly established Alumni Center.
Founded in 1888, Snow College first opened its doors to 120 students on the second floor of the Co-op building, which served as its initial campus. While the school quickly outgrew the space, the Co-op has remained a cherished symbol of the institution’s roots. College officials expressed their excitement at bringing the building back into the fold of Snow College’s story.
“Everything that has taken place in this building over the years has led us to today,” said Snow College President Stacee McIff during the ceremony. “We are incredibly grateful to those who preserved this historic site, and we pledge to continue being good stewards of it.”
The event featured speeches by President McIff, Ephraim City Mayor John Scott, and Alumni Association President Melissa Judy, who reflected on the college’s history and its ongoing commitment to the future. Together, they cut the ceremonial ribbon, held by Nathan Bradley, Snow College’s alumni relations officer, and Madison Moulton, Miss Teen Sanpete County.
Following the ribbon cutting, attendees were invited to tour the restored Co-op building and watch the premiere of a new short documentary detailing the college’s early days and its enduring impact on the community. The film celebrates the school’s beginnings and the pioneering spirit of its founders.
Snow College’s emphasis on community, heritage, and forward-thinking was on full display at the event, demonstrating the institution’s dedication to preserving its history while preparing students for a bright future.
