Sanpete County kicks off small business season to support local shops
The Sanpete County Chamber of Commerce has launched its inaugural Small Business Season, a new initiative that celebrates and supports local businesses during the busy holiday shopping months. Running from November 1 through the end of the year, this campaign aims to remind residents of the value of keeping their dollars local, while also promoting a festive and community-focused shopping experience.
Reigniting holiday nostalgia
“Some of my fondest memories are of celebrating the holidays with my family, exploring our local shops, and soaking in the magic of Sanpete County,” shared Chamber President Faylyn Warnick. Reflecting on cherished traditions, Warnick mentioned her love for visiting Mr. Lee’s Variety Store in Ephraim as a child. “Those experiences of finding unique gifts and enjoying the Christmas spirit in our local stores are moments I want to pass down to my own children,” she added.
Warnick believes that shopping locally this season can rekindle the holiday charm and strengthen the sense of community Sanpete is known for. “By supporting our local businesses, we’re investing in the heart of our county and ensuring that our holiday traditions thrive,” she said.
The return of ‘Mom and Pop’ shops
Alicia King, vice president of the Chamber and owner of Spring City Mercantile, echoed similar sentiments. As a co-owner of Mt. Pleasant Mercantile, King emphasized the nostalgic value of small businesses, which have been overshadowed by large chain stores in recent decades.
“When big box stores came in, we lost some of the unique character of our retail communities,” King said. “That’s why I opened my shop–I wanted to bring back that old-fashioned charm. There are so many new, wonderful small businesses popping up in Sanpete, and they thrive only when the community supports them.”
A season to celebrate local
The Small Business Season invites residents to explore the distinctive shops, restaurants, and services that make Sanpete County special. Shopping locally not only helps sustain small businesses but also fosters stronger community ties. For customers, it means receiving personalized service, discovering one-of-a-kind gifts, and experiencing a more meaningful holiday season.
The Chamber is encouraging everyone to join in on this celebration. “Let’s make this holiday season one to remember by supporting the businesses that define our community,” said Warnick.
Residents are encouraged to shop, dine, and explore locally throughout November and December, ensuring that their holiday spending benefits neighbors, friends, and family-owned businesses in the area.
