Entering the Big 12, no one would have batted an eye if BYU decided to tone down the preseason schedule. But Jennifer Rockwood has loaded the early parts of the season with outstanding matchups. On August 31, defending NCAA champion UCLA comes to Provo and South Field will be the hottest ticket on campus.
Pressure, pressure, pressure
BYU’s high press defense produces turnovers and sets up the offense to exploit mismatches. The result is a higher percentage of ball control for an offense that is usually among the nation’s leaders in shots taken and scoring.
Scoring from all angles
Last season, five Cougars scored at least five goals, led by Brecken Mozingo with 12 and Olivia Wade-Katoa and Allie Fryer with nine each. All five of those BYU players who scored at least five goals return in 2023.

Going places
Last season, the Cougars traveled 7,062 round-trip miles to play five West Coast Conference road games. In 2023, BYU will log 11,760 round-trip miles to play five Big 12 road games, not to mention 2,476 round-trip miles for the league post-season tournament in Round Rock, Texas, Oct. 30-Nov. 6.
