Former Kentucky guard Collin Chandler (right) signed with BYU on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.The BYU men’s basketball transfer portal activity looks like this: It’ll be a while before the subtractions are balanced with the additions.
A total of eight Cougars have entered the transfer portal in the past week, the latest being freshman guard Aleksej Kostic on Monday. Kostic showed promise as a 3-point specialist and started the final five games of the season, finishing at 4.4 points per game and 36.7% from 3. As of Monday afternoon, two former Cougars (Xavion Staton to Oregon State, Dominique Diamonde to Pittsburgh) have found new homes. Point guard Robert Wright III visited Mark Pope and Kentucky on Monday.
Several social media reports Monday listed a BYU commitment from 6-foot-8 Syracuse forward Tyler Betsey. The two-time Gatorade Player of the Year in Connecticut was rated No. 37 in the Class of 2024 by 24/7 Sports. He began his career at Cincinnati and transferred to play for the Orange last season, averaging 6.7 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. The Cougars like Betsey’s 3-point shooting, where he made 40.7%.
Meanwhile, BYU made one addition official with the signing of former Kentucky starter Collin Chandler. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard, who prepped at Farmington High School and committed to the Cougars last week, averaged 9.7 points per game for the Wildcats and shot 46% from the 3-point line during Southeastern Conference play.
“We are excited to welcome Collin and his wife, Hannah, to BYU,” Cougar head coach Kevin Young said. “His passion for the game and his ability to make winning plays all over the floor is going to make everyone around him better. He showed that he is one of the premier 3-point shooters in the country last season and wasn’t afraid to take and make big time shots.”
Betsey and Chandler join newcomers Bruce Branch III, Dean Rueckert and Brooks Bahr on BYU’s 2026-27 roster, with Brody Kozlowski, Khadim Mboup, Dawson Baker and Nate Pickens likely returning as well.
The Cougars are not nearly done in the transfer portal with six more roster spots to fill. BYU is looking for more shooting and some size with apparent interest in 7-1 UConn center Eric Reibe, 6-9 Utah forward Keanu Dawes and 6-11 Colorado center Sebastian Rancik, along with multiple inquiries into foreign players as well.
Other reports indicate BYU interest in 6-2 Stetson guard Ethan Copeland, who is from Sunnyside, Wash., but played his senior season at Lone Peak High School in Highland and made 70 3-point shots. Copeland served a church mission in Guatemala. After two seasons at USU-Eastern and SLCC, respectively, Copeland averaged 15 points per game and shot 43% from the 3-point line for the Hatters in 2025-26.
Meanwhile, former Timpanogos and Utah Valley standout Jackson Holcombe has committed to the University of Utah, reported on social media. The 6-7 guard averaged 15.8 points, seven rebounds and 3.6 assists last year.
