Heavy rainfall in Provo leads to Buckley Draw mudslide, cleanup underway

A microburst of rain Wednesday night resulted in a mudslide in the Buckley Draw burn scar, spilling into the valley and damaging a church. Slate Canyon and Nevada Avenue closed Thursday morning as cleanup commenced. By Thursday afternoon, Provo City said it has hauled away 13,440 tons of debris in 960 trucks. Over 200 volunteers showed up with buckets and shovels at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel on the corner of Slate Canyon Drive and Nevada Avenue to help remove mud. This story will be updated.
