A cardboard cutout of actor Kevin Bacon wearing a party hat is displayed outside of the Payson High School student council's booth at Payson Scottish Festival on Saturday, July 8, 2023.

Lehi is still finalizing all of the details, but the performers for this year’s Concert in the Park have been set in stone.

The Bacon Brothers will be in Lehi to perform on June 24 — and yes, we mean Hollywood actor Kevin Bacon of “Footloose” fame, to name just a few of his many well-known films, and his brother, Michael Bacon, an Emmy-winning composer.

“We usually have our concerts at the Margaret Wines Park, but we’re anticipating a much larger audience this year, so we’re looking to finalize a different venue,” said Jeanteil Livingston, public relations manager for Lehi. “As soon as we get everything finalized, we’ll send out all of the details, but we just wanted to put a tease out there to let people know they’re coming.”

The Utah County Fair is even getting in on the fun. This year’s theme is “Footloose at the Fair” with a “Footloose”-themed concert on July 31 at 8 p.m. Tickets are required and be purchased at https://www.sfcitytix.com.

“Footloose,” in which Kevin Bacon played the lead role, was partially filmed in Lehi and Payson High School. Although this year marks the 40th anniversary of the movie’s release in 1984, that’s not the main reason the two brothers are coming to Utah. According to a press release issued by Lehi City, they are returning to the state as part of their band’s 12th record, “Ballad Of The Brothers,” which highlights the similarities and differences of Kevin and Michael. Their music includes edgy alternative rock, soul, folk, classic rock “and everything in between.”

Payson High School is set to be torn down this year, so students have invited Kevin Bacon to attend their prom for one last dance. #BacontoPayson has been posted all over social media in an effort to lure the actor back to the school. Still scenes from the movie are still speckled throughout the hallways, and the locker Bacon used in the movie even has a plaque that says, “Congratulations. You’ve been given Kevin Bacon’s locker.”

“Our prom will be April 20 and our whole campaign has been focused on our effort to get him back to the school,” said Payson High School student council advisor Jenny Stahlei. “We’ve based our whole year here around activities toward this project. Our drama students put on the ‘Footloose’ play and we’ve had several fun activities going throughout the year.”

Stahlei said the school has been playing 1980s music all year and even held a “Mr. Bacon Pageant.”

“We’ve even been dragging around a Kevin Bacon cutout all over town,” she said. “And one of the neat things we’ve been involved in has been with the Six Degrees Foundation, which is near and dear to Kevin’s heart, so we will be putting 5,000 essential kits together for local charities as part of the foundation’s goal of 40,000 total kits. The public will be invited to come in and help with that project.”

Stahlei said even though nothing has been confirmed as to whether or not Bacon will attend the prom, she said she’ll never say he’s not coming.

“I’m never going to say he’s not going to come because I believe he’s going to,” she said. “But even if he doesn’t, it’s been a great year for us to shine the light on the history of the school.”
