Keith GroverKeith Grover is a Republican candidate for the Senate District 23 seat. Below are his responses to a six-question survey sent to him by the Daily Herald. This interview may have been edited for brevity and clarity.
1. Why is the position you are running for important?
Utah’s future depends on strong, principled leadership. The decisions made in the Utah Senate directly affect our families, schools, businesses, and individual freedoms.
As our state continues to grow, we need experienced leaders who understand the challenges and know how to deliver results.
My legislative history protects Utah’s conservative values, preserves economic opportunity, and ensures government remains accountable to the people.
2. What unique qualities, attributes, skills, and experiences do you possess that make you the best candidate in this race?
I bring proven legislative leadership, extensive experience as a public school teacher, and a record of delivering results. As an educator, school administrator, and State Senator, I understand the challenges facing Utah families and know how to turn conservative principles into effective public policy.
I am willing to tackle difficult issues, challenge conventional thinking, and stand firm on principle. My experience, relationships, and ability to build consensus distinguish me in this race. I offer more than campaign promises–I bring a record of leadership and accomplishment.
3. Please explain your priorities if elected, as well as why you believe you are uniquely capable of achieving those priorities.
I will adamantly oppose the socialist and communist policies promoted by my opponent that threaten threaten individual liberty and free enterprise and have NO place in Utah. My legislative experience and proven ability to build coalitions equip me to advance conservative solutions that protect Utah families and preserve our state’s success.
My priorities are clear: protect taxpayers, defend individual freedoms, strengthen education, and preserve Utah’s prosperity. We must address housing affordability, water scarcity, and infrastructure needs while maintaining limited government and fiscal responsibility.
4. Please describe how you view the importance of compromise in politics and provide an example from your own experiences that highlights your perspective.
Effective leadership requires knowing when to stand firm and when to find common ground. My sponsorship of S.B. 221, New School District Creation, demonstrates this approach. I worked with Alpine School District communities and stakeholders to resolve competing interests involving local control, financial responsibility, and educational governance.
Through negotiations and revisions, we addressed legitimate concerns without sacrificing our objectives. S.B. 221 passed both chambers unanimously, demonstrating that principled compromise can bring people together and deliver meaningful results.
5. How will you balance the views of the vocal public, your political party, and your own understanding and knowledge as an elected representative?
I was elected to lead, not simply follow the loudest voices or political pressure. I am a proud Republican and committed conservative, but my first responsibility is to the people I represent. I listen carefully, examine the facts, and make decisions guided by principle.
I am the candidate who thinks independently, makes difficult decisions, and has the courage to stand behind them.
6. What is the best way for readers to contact you and/or get more information about your platform?
Effective representation begins with listening. I welcome hearing from constituents, whether we agree or disagree. Your concerns, experiences, and ideas help shape my decisions and strengthen my ability to represent our community.
