An early morning fire Tuesday morning has left a vacation home near Sundance Mountain Resort along the Alpine Loop near Provo completely destroyed, according to the North Fork Fire Department.

Crews got a call about the blaze at a two-story structure near 3093 East and Deer Run Road around 5:20 Tuesday morning.

“So, it was in a residential structure up by the Sundance ski resort. I don’t believe they use it as a rental, but it’s kind of a family cabin,” Chief Dave Marcella of the North Fork Fire Department said.

Crews arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames, some of which had spread to some nearby trees.

Marcella said their first line of attack was making sure the fire didn’t extend any further into mountainside, “so they took care of the urban interface prior to actually hitting the structure, to keep it, to keep the fire, you know, within the confines of the property.”

Multiple agencies, including Provo Fire & Rescue and Forestry, Fire & State Lands, were called upon to assist with the response.

By 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, responding crews had the fire contained. The recent rain also helped put the flames out.

No one was inside of the home at the time of the fire; no injuries were reported. Marcella said the loss is estimated at around $2 million. The cause is under investigation.
