The Provo Police Department asked Tuesday in a Facebook post for assistance identifying a suspect in the Aug. 3, 2020, shooting at the city’s Missionary Training Center.

According to police reports at the time, shots were fired in the early morning at the MTC’s main security booth by someone driving what was believed to be a light-colored Subaru Outback. The Facebook post describes it as a “white or silver older model Subaru sedan.”

Screenshots from the security cameras were included in the Provo Police Department’s Facebook post.

According to Shad Lefevre, public information officer, the post was shared at the request of the investigating detectives to see if members of the public had any additional information.

“BYU and Provo detectives have worked the case to the end of all leads,” he said.

Lefevre added that detectives have followed traffic cameras, used police systems to find similar vehicles and talked with residents to find information.

People with information are asked to contact Provo Police Detective Campbell at RCampbell@provo.org or by calling the department’s non-emergency line at 801-852-6210.

“We’re just trying to revitalize the case a little bit, see if we can generate any more leads,” Lefevre said.
