U-Talk: What do you think about Target adding a new store in Provo?

“Actually, I think it’s a great idea. We need a Target over here. I’m tired of going all the way over to Orem, and they do have some things that I like to buy there. … I’ve always liked Target. Every place has something different, but I just think it’s about time we sit there and get something over here besides nothing, really. I just remember reading about it in the paper, okay — actually, online — and I thought, it’s about time. I mean, honestly, do something with the mall.” — Sally Larson, Provo

“I’m not super informed on, like, Target, their policies, or even, like, the mall. All of my lady friends really love going to Target, that’s for sure, so that might be a plus. But other than that, I’m sure as long as they’re doing good business practices, it will be a boost in the economy. That would be my assumption. I’m assuming it’s going to be nice and new. A little bit bigger than the one over in Orem. I mean, as long as companies are being responsible with their growth, I’m all for it.” — Josh Miller, Provo

” I think there’s been a lot of, like, outdoor malls that have kind of taken away from just the enclosed ones, and so, I think it’s going to be really nice to have a Target there — because then there’s usually just, like, you got the Orem that’s just out on the street over here that doesn’t have a whole lot, and then there’s one out in American Fork, so it kind of just gets progressively farther away. … I have taken a lot of my groceries from Target recently, and they’ve had a lot of really good things just at a great price.” — Blaike Kelson, Provo

“I think it will be great for Provo. It’s long overdue. We just need to revive the mall, and get some stuff done in that way that people want to come visit. I think it will be good for the economy, and it will be the closest ones between here and south, like Spanish Fork, so it will bring people here from Springville. One shop comes in, there will be other shops that will come, that will follow, and it will bring more people to the area.” — Ashley Jones, Provo

“I think the Provo Center Mall is starting to decline, in terms of economic decline, so I would say that a Target would probably boost that. And I think it will be significant. I think it will be very helpful. I haven’t been to the Provo City mall for a long time, so I don’t live down there, but when I’m driving by or I have to go to a meeting there doesn’t seem to be a lot of people, and I’m not sure why, so I think a Target would increase, actually, in terms of people going in, purchasing, and I think it will benefit the economy.” — Kori Taylor, Lindon
