A police report, which was obtained through an open records request, states that officers were dispatched to Red Wings on Halloween after a woman was seen taking down campaign signs of Orem City Council candidates. Orem PD would not release any other reports relating to the case as it is still under investigation.

The woman reportedly received permission to remove the signs from one of the business’s employees, but it was later determined that the employee did not have the authority to grant her permission to take down any signs, the report states.

The Daily Herald was not immediately able to independently verify the identity of the woman in the redacted report.

Chris Killpack, a candidate for City Council, said his sign was among those removed from a grassy area on the State Street side of the business.

Killpack told the Daily Herald on Tuesday that he has written permission from the property owner to place campaign signs on the property. He claimed that when he went to the business that day to replace his sign, he witnessed two individuals attempting to take down election signs from Jenn Gale and Jeff Lambson, two other council candidates.

“I just would invite us all to have more kindness, compassion, communicate, collaborate and be more willing to make a unified city,” Killpack said.

Under the Utah Code, knowingly removing a campaign sign that advocates for the election or defeat of a candidate for public office is a class B misdemeanor.

Ballots have been sent out and must be postmarked by Nov. 20 or placed in a drop box before 8 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 21, to be counted.

Residents also have the option of in-person early voting, which will be held from Nov. 13-20 at the Utah County Administration Building, 100 E. Center St. in Provo, during regular business hours.
