Utah-based Celtic music ensemble, Shanahy, gears up for a free concert at Gunnison's Casino Star Theatre on April 25th.

Get ready for an evening of mesmerizing Celtic melodies as Utah-based ensemble Shanahy takes the stage at Gunnison’s Casino Star Theatre for a free concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 25.

As the 2023-2024 live performance season draws to a close, the Casino Star Theatre is thrilled to partner with fellow Utah nonprofit Excellence in the Community to present this captivating event. Shanahy, hailed as the “Best Celtic Group” by the Intermountain Acoustic Music Association, will transport audiences with their rich repertoire of traditional tunes from the British Isles, predominantly Scotland and Ireland.

Led by a talented ensemble comprising Kate MacLeod, Andrew Morrill, Bronwen Beecher, and Mark Hazel, Shanahy’s distinctive sound features a blend of fiddles, bagpipes, whistles, flutes, guitars, and vocals. With nearly two decades of musical camaraderie under their belt, Shanahy promises an unforgettable evening filled with enchanting melodies and lively rhythms.

This collaboration between Shanahy and Excellence in the Community underscores the Casino Star Theatre’s dedication to showcasing local talent and providing enriching cultural experiences for the community. Through partnerships like these, the theatre has hosted over 1100 free concerts across Utah since 2012, adapting seamlessly to challenges such as the pandemic by offering live-streamed performances that garnered an impressive 38 million views.

As a cornerstone of entertainment in the Gunnison Valley since 1913, the Casino Star Theatre has evolved into a revered cultural hub, bridging the realms of both cinematic and live performances. The venue, operated by the non-profit Casino Star Theatre Foundation, remains committed to preserving its historical significance while enriching the local community with top-tier arts and entertainment.

The success of the Casino Star Theatre’s Live Performance Season is made possible by the generous support of local partners including Roland and Julia Christensen, The Miner Foundation, Ensign Engineering, Central Utah Radiology, GV Recreation, Arts, and Parks, Hermansen’s Mill, Richard B. Nay, M.D., Rocky Mountain Power, and Jim and Suzanne Sanders.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of music and merriment with Shanahy on April 25th, marking the end of live shows until September 2024. While live performances take a brief hiatus, the venue will continue its weekly cinema offerings. Admission is free, so don’t miss out on this opportunity to experience the magic of Shanahy at the Casino Star Theatre.
