Snow College’s CTE Days foster high school student engagement in technical training

By Staff | Mar 13, 2024

High school students from across Snow College’s six-county service region recently participated in a series of Career and Technical Education Days.

EPHRAIM — In an effort to bridge the gap between high school students and rewarding technical careers, Snow College welcomed enthusiastic participants from across its six-county service region for a series of immersive Career and Technical Education Days. The events, held on March 6, 2024, were tailored to expose students to various technical training options that pave the way for high-demand careers.

The meticulously planned CTE Days provided students with hands-on learning experiences in workshops conducted by seasoned Snow College instructors. Becky Callister, director of Career and Technical Education at Snow College, emphasized the commitment to quality over quantity in the planning process. “Our focus was on ensuring that each student could get the most out of the event,” said Callister. Students were selectively invited based on their areas of interest and their prior enrollment in CTE courses during high school.

Five distinct workshops, each centered around key technical training areas, were the focal point of the day:

1. Manufacturing Day: Composites, Welding, HVAC, Machining, Industrial Mechanics, and Student Recruitment.

2. Health Professions Day: Nursing Assistant, Medical Assisting, EMT, and Nursing.

3. Business Day: Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Business Grit, Finance, and Sales.

4. Construction and Design Day: Architectural Drafting, CAD/3D Modeling, CNC Fabrication, Finish Carpentry, and Recruitment.

5. Transportation Day: Automotive, Diesel.

Each workshop featured breakout sessions, program rotations to acquaint students with diverse offerings, hands-on activities, lunch, and exciting drawings. The comprehensive approach left students, teachers, and counselors thoroughly satisfied, having gained valuable insights into various fields and the corresponding opportunities available to them.

Callister expressed enthusiasm based on the positive feedback received, confirming plans to make these CTE workshops an annual event at Snow College. High school students can look forward to these engaging sessions as an invaluable resource to explore their interests and potential career paths.
