Dear Amy,
I’ve shopped at drug stores for a very long time. I’ve loved getting all the freebies and cheap products after using coupons and the in-store rewards programs. I’m a little confused, however, about the new Rite Aid Plenti Points program. Can you explain it to me and tell me what you think about it?
Sincerely,
Plenti Confused
Dear Plenti Confused,
As you are aware, Rite Aid recently changed out their old rewards program for their new Plenti Points system. While it is slightly different from their old program, it’s still easy to use. Plenti Points can be earned just like +UpRewards. Every time you buy something at Rite Aid, you earn reward points which can accumulate into bigger savings on purchases.
Breaking it down, customers earn one (1) point for every dollar spent on eligible non-prescription purchases they make when they scan their reward card at the register (some exclusions apply).
In total, 200 Plenti points will get you at least $2 in savings at the checkout at Rite Aid and certain Plenti partners like Exxon, Macy’s, AT&T and Mobil. To get the discount savings, members must present their wellness+ card, Plenti card or alternate ID at checkout.
As a bonus, you still earn wellness+ points for your purchases just as you did before. Continue earning wellness+ points with your purchases for up to 20 percent off almost the entire Rite Aid store for a year. Don’t worry about losing your existing points either. Current wellness+ members will keep their wellness+ status and wellness+ points.
In regard to wellness+ points, members can earn one point for every dollar spent on non-prescription purchases. They can also earn up to 25 wellness+ points for every prescription filled at the Rite Aid pharmacy.
The biggest difference between +UpRewards and Plenti Points is the ability to use your accrued rewards at stores other than Rite Aid. This is a great option if you frequent Plenti Points partners. If you don’t shop at any of the partnering businesses, that’s okay as well since you can still use your savings at Rite Aid and riteaid.com.
If you’re a tried and true Rite Aid and drug store shopper then switching over to the Plenti Points system should be a breeze. It’s the same concept, just a new name and more store options for savings. If you’re like me, however, I like my savings to be instantaneous. I’ll stick to my tried and true method of using coupons on hot sale items and leave the point accruals to the rest of the shoppers. Just remember, you’re not really saving any money on the products for which you accumulate points. You only save when you redeem those points in the future.
Savings should be easy and fun. If you are willing to put in the effort to account for “potential points” savings in your purchase price, then you’ll love the new Plenti Points program at Rite Aid.
