A late introduction
I’m a little late in introducing our current photo intern- Jim McAuley.
Jim came to us back in June for a six-month internship after graduating from Ohio University. Here he’s pictured hard at work giving James rides around the parking lot.
The position used to last just four months, but we extended it to six months recently, allowing them time to get settled and learn the way of the land before kicking them out again.
Sounds kind of harsh, but it’s a tough business with a lot of young, talented competition out there. I’m thrilled to say that we receive applications and portfolios for our internship from all around the country.
While many newspapers are cutting back on the position, I’m proud that we still offer the opportunity for young shooters and hope they can learn something from our small staff here in Provo.
During their time here they take on all the same workload as the staff shooters with a fair share of the assignments, good and bad. Usually by the end of the six months we see some good development and nice additions to their portfolio.
It’s also fun to see where they all end up after their time with us. Whether they continue shooting professionally or decided to try something completely different, (hopefully that’s no fault of our own).
So if you see Jim around the valley, please buy him a caffeine-free diet Coke and welcome him to Utah!
