Kenyon Scott Friel

Sep 30, 2024

1960 — 2024

Kenyon Scott Friel of Springville, Utah, 63, passed away in Chandler, Arizona unexpectedly on September 20, 2024. Ken was born in Cedar City, Utah and grew up in Richfield, Utah before moving to Orem with his parents Stephen and RaNay Friel. He was the youngest of three children.

Ken graduated from Orem High school in 1978 and married Juli Garrett on August 19, 1981. Together Ken and Juli raised three children: Trevor (Jason) Friel, Lexi (Brandon) Hansen and Cortny (David) Zemp. He was the proud grandfather of five amazing grandchildren: Peyton and Korbin Hansen; KenLee, Blake and AshLee Zemp. Being a grandpa was one of his great joys in life. We will all miss his smirk and the twinkle in his eye as he would pull a treat out of his pocket for the grandkids.

Ken had an incredibly long career with North American Arms. He started with them in 1980 on the production line and eventually retired as the general manager in 2021. His job allowed him many opportunities to travel across the country and the globe, however his favorite place was at home with a good show on television.

A man of few words, Ken was a very private person. Once you were able to get him to open up however, he was a great source of knowledge, wisdom and advice. He was a very dedicated husband, father and grandfather who always put his family first. He was loved by his family and will be missed profoundly. It will be very difficult to not see him in “his spot” on the couch at home or answering the home phone and calling for Juli to pick it up.

Although he will be missed dearly, his family takes comfort in knowing that he is reunited with those that have passed before him including his dog Kramer. The family would not be surprised if Kramer had been waiting for him upon his arrival.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law Jeneil Wing and sister-in-law Viki Wing. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his sister Shelly (Dave) Echols and brother Clint (Danae) Friel, and sister-in-law Kaylynn Christiansen.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Berg Orem Chapel, 500 North State Street, Orem, Utah. Interment will be at the Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East, Orem, Utah. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.bergmortuary.com.
