Here is Jared Lloyd’s look at the BYU-Liberty matchups, including his prediction for the final score for Saturday's game at LaVell Edwards Stadium:
BYU offense vs. Liberty defense
The Cougar offense finally put together a strong game as BYU scored 42 points at Utah State. The Flames have had a few games where they have given up a lot of points, so this contest appears to be coming at a good time for the Cougars.
BYU defense vs. Liberty offense
The Cougars gave up a lot of yards but forced five turnovers in the win over the Aggies. Flame quarterback Stephen Calvert is a savvy veteran and Liberty has some good offensive weapons around him, so expect the visitors to put up some points.
BYU head coach Kalani Sitake appears to have gotten the Cougars on the right track with a pair of solid wins, but now it's about maintaining that level of play. Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze has a reputation as a great offensive mind and will have the Flames ready to play.
BYU forced a lot of turnovers but coughed the ball up three times in its last game. The Cougars will be at home while the Flames face a long road trip and the altitude. Liberty will come in with less pressure as the underdog.
Key Matchup: BYU defensive linemen vs. Liberty offensive line
The Cougars can't let the Flames dictate what happens at the point of attack. If Liberty comes out and can run successfully as well as provide time for the pass game, BYU is going to have a long afternoon. The Cougar linemen should be some of the best the Flames have seen and should be able to cause problems.
No matter who takes the helm for the Cougar offensive, BYU should be able to move the ball and score against the Liberty defense. The Flames will make some good plays and be close enough to be dangerous, but the outcome will never really be in doubt.
BYU 48, Liberty 29
